Old Dragkhans

The Old Dragkhans were a draconic race created during the final phase of the Great Primordial War. They are distinct from the modern Dragkhans, whose origin the Timeline places much later in the blood of Udanalankar, the Last of the Dragons.

Creation¶

The Great Primordial War pitted the Sky Empire of the Lord of the Winds and the Old Dragons against the Terran Coalition of Mother Earth, the Stone Father, Elves, and Dwarves. After a millennium of fighting, the Sky Empire appeared likely to lose because it could not match the Coalition’s numbers.

The Lord of the Winds spent his own essence to preserve his servants. This act exchanged or transformed the intelligence of the Old Dragons’ children and brought forth the Old Dragkhan race—identified in the Timeline as Kobolds—alongside modern Dragons. It also began the decline of the Old Dragons and sent the Lord of the Winds into eternal slumber.

Battle of the Dragon’s Head¶

Old Dragkhan hordes overwhelmed the Terran Coalition at the Battle of the Dragon’s Head below the Dragon Mountains. They killed all three dwarven founding pairs and the great Elven kings. The first kingdoms of Srrørum, Anempanso, and the Gold Dwarven world collapsed, while the Elves fell into disarray.

The invasions continued after the battle. Old Dragkhans attacked Gold Dwarven lands, razed Asharatar and other settlements, and forced surviving dwarves toward fortified holds. They also displaced serpentine settlements and contested northern Morrigon with early Orcish societies.

Long decline¶

The Old Dragkhan threat endured for thousands of years. The Zerywani Twins encouraged the creation and migration of humans in part to challenge them, and the Victory Goddess aided humanity against the old hordes. By the later Mythic and Human Ages, the Old Dragkhans no longer held their former dominance.

Modern Dragkhans share a draconic inheritance but should not be treated as the same race. Their recorded emergence, migrations, cultures, and empires belong to a later historical lineage.
