Anempanso, translated as Skyreach, was the semi-mythical realm of the Copper Dwarves in the Dwarven Grandlands. Dwarven tradition places its foundation in the Mythic Age and remembers it as one of the three great civilizations of the Dwarven Golden Age.

Mythic foundation¶

According to The Emergence, the Stone Father fashioned three dwarven pairs from clay mixed with silver, gold, or copper. The youngest pair, Frei and Dwadais, emerged from the Copper Caves at what is now Bad-Idna. They conquered the Dwarven Grandlands, led their people in worship of the Stone Father, and ruled the expansive realms of Anempanso.

The Copper Dwarves also developed Donenforr, an early writing system later adopted by other dwarven peoples. Together with the realms of Srrørum and the Gold Dwarven empire of Mâhdad Sho-Tan'Mâat Mâ'Azarî, Anempanso represented the monumental and innovative civilization attributed to the first dwarven pairs.

Anempanso fell during the disasters that ended the Dwarven and Serpentine Golden Ages. At the Battle of the Dragon’s Head, hordes of Old Dragkhans overwhelmed the Terran Coalition and killed all three dwarven founding pairs. Their deaths were followed by disputes among the dwarves over which pair were the true heirs of the Stone Father, while invading peoples destroyed or occupied much of the old realms.

Copper Dwarven civilization survived in a diminished and divided form. The Grandlands later endured Goblin, Selaskusian, and Zaraken pressure, and the memory of Anempanso became both an ancestral homeland and a claim to lost unity.

The Skyreach legacy¶

In the modern age, the walled city of Bad-Furqorin stands where the Skyreach Steppes meet the Skyreach Mountains. The explorer Edis the Grim drove back nearby Goblin and Selaskusian tribes, founded the kingdom of Qoes in 773 LC, and began building Bad-Furqorin in 775 LC. His descendants continue to rule there.

The restoration of Anempanso remains a Copper Dwarven political ideal: reunification of the Skyreach Passages, defeat of the Goblin threat, and the recovery of the mountain homeland associated with Frei and Dwadais. Modern restoration claims therefore connect the precarious Kingdom of Edis with the authority of the ancient realm.
