Frei

250 words·1 min read

Frei was the male figure of the youngest dwarven founding pair and the partner of Dwadais. Copper Dwarven tradition remembers them as the founders of Anempanso and the ancestral pair of the Copper Dwarves.

The Copper Caves

In The Emergence, the Stone Father fashioned Frei and Dwadais from copper-bearing clay. They emerged from the Copper Caves at what is now Bad-Idna, then conquered the Dwarven Grandlands and ruled the expansive Skyreach realm of Anempanso.

Their age was also associated with early Copper Dwarven innovation. The Timeline credits the Copper Dwarves with developing Donenforr, a writing system later adopted among Gold and Silver Dwarves. The invention belongs to the broader memory of the first pairs as rulers who created monuments, extended dwarven influence, and led their peoples in worship of the Stone Father.

Death and legacy

Frei, Dwadais, and the other founders were killed when Old Dragkhans broke the Terran Coalition at the Battle of the Dragon’s Head. Their deaths and the destruction of Anempanso contributed to the Dwarven Age of Isolation.

The founders were returned to the caves of their emergence, where dwarven tradition holds that they became stones of their respective metals and reunited with their father. Modern Copper Dwarven efforts to restore Anempanso invoke Frei and Dwadais as the sacred origin of their claim to the Skyreach Passages.
