Kuulvaal

Kuulvaal is the faith of the Gnomes, a devout monolatristic religion centered on Wielkopan, their creator god, and on the veneration of his angelic servants.

The One God¶

Wielkopan is known to the Gnomes as Wekuaa among the Jaam and Wekuu among the Waal. He is the one true god of Kuulvaal and the creator of the Gnomish race.

The Gnomes offer him daily prayers of thanks for their continued survival in the harsh arctic. Their worship is shaped by gratitude, endurance, hospitality, and the memory of exile from the warmer Peaceful Valley, known in Gnomish tradition as Jaaltuvesk.

Wielkopan is unique among the Four Great Gods. Unlike Wishtheon, Naathran, and Melodias, he is native to Omniluxia, so his power was never attached to a Divine Well.

The Taalvut¶

Beyond Wielkopan, the Gnomes venerate the Taalvut, or angels. Their icons and pendants are carried for aid in everyday life:

• Akoo - the Taalvut of War, who revealed the secrets of Projection Magic to the Jemskoo and fights beside those who pray for guidance.
• Maa - the Taalvut of Craftsmen, honored in workshops across Gnomish cities as a patron of self-reliance and artistic beauty.
• Taavku - the cold and pragmatic Taalvut of Winter, whose strength is sought by warriors.
• Bvulaar - the Taalvut of Summer, honored at the Waa Festival.

The Taalvut do not replace Wielkopan. They function as servants, models, and intermediaries whose virtues help Gnomes interpret the will of their creator in ordinary life.

Practice¶

Central to Gnomish worship is reverence for the magical Iaawu Hearths that warm arctic cities. Hearths are not merely infrastructure; they are sacred centers of home, survival, and communal obligation.

Kuulvaal also preserves a strong tradition of hospitality. Wielkopan is said to test families by appearing as a stranger seeking shelter, so refusing warmth to a traveler risks refusing the god himself.

Historical Memory¶

Kuulvaal carries the trauma of Gnomish displacement. The Timeline records that Wielkopan created the Gnomes around 20,000 BLC to live with him in Jaaltuvesk. After King Skol Skuuva committed the Great Sin by gazing upon Wielkopan's true form, the god banished the Gnomes north and rained fire over their old home.

The faith therefore combines love and fear: Wielkopan is savior and creator, but he is also too vast to be treated lightly.
