Horteon
Horteon is the southern Melodian continent, a land of fire and ice where Horteonians, Eptelonians, native Gnomes, and the Atheusian High Elven slaver-empire contend. Together with Polaria, it forms one of the most important northern and Melodian theaters of Omniluxian history.
Fire, Ice, and Colonies¶
The Regions page describes Horteon and Polaria as Melodian continents: a land of fire and ice. Horteon is the more contested of the pair, with native peoples, displaced Eptelonians, Gnomish communities, and High Elven colonists all occupying overlapping claims.
This geography matters because it compresses extremes. Volcanic or fiery associations, ice-bound frontiers, colonial citadels, and native settlements exist close enough for climate, logistics, and warfare to shape every political project.
Atheusian Rule¶
Horteon's most important imperial actor is the Atheusian High Elven slaver-empire. Atheus the Conqueror brought ruinous war to Horteon and the Melodian continents, and the High Elves used citadels, slavery, and tribute to maintain colonial rule.
The Atheus Dominion and related High Elven powers should be understood as more than foreign kingdoms. They are institutions of conquest, with old claims that survive through long-lived rulers and colonial elites.
The High Elven Civil War¶
After the death of Atheus the Younger in 635 LC, the High Elven Civil War divided the empire between rival heirs. Horteon was one of the lands shaped by that conflict. War among the conquerors did not free every subject people, but it did weaken High Elven manpower and attention.
The Great Collapse later brought the High Elven Peace, when rival kings no longer had the strength to continue expansion. For Horteon, that peace created a rare opening for oppressed native peoples to resist, recover, and push back against colonial structures.
Gnomes and the Northern Memory¶
Gnomes are tied to both Horteon and Polaria. Their traditions remember an origin in the Peaceful Valley, which they call Jaaltuvesk, followed by banishment north after the Great Sin. Some Gnomes remained associated with Horteon, while many modern Gnomish traditions center on Polaria, Kemi, Wuskouu, Waal, and Jaam.
This gives Horteon a layered Gnomish role: it is not only a colonial battlefield, but part of a sacred geography of exile, survival, and possible return.
Native and Eptelonian Peoples¶
Horteon includes Horteonians and Eptelonians alongside Gnomes and High Elves. The Eptelonian link suggests migration or displacement from Eptelon, where tribes were pushed inland by foreign colonists, Arteonian raiders, High Elves, and Ular-Pria slavers.
In game terms, Horteon can therefore host conflicts between indigenous survival, refugee communities, High Elven colonial administration, and Gnomish religious memory.
