Eptelon
Eptelon is a beleaguered island-continent near Arteon and Austropetolia. It is remembered less for a single empire than for sustained pressure: tribes pushed inland, coasts threatened by foreign colonists, Arteonian raiders, High Elves, and Ular-Pria slavers.
A Continent Under Pressure¶
Eptelon's geography makes it vulnerable. It sits close enough to Arteon to suffer raiding and close enough to the Snake Isles for Ular-Pria slaving networks to matter. It also lies within the broader High Elven colonial sphere that shaped Arteon, Horteon, and the Melodian continents.
The result is a continent whose interior preserves native survival while its edges are repeatedly contested by outsiders. Eptelonian history is therefore a story of displacement, retreat, adaptation, and resistance.
Native Eptelonians¶
Current wiki sources preserve Eptelonians mostly through regional references rather than a dedicated people page. They appear in the Regions overview as tribes pushed inland by foreign colonists, Arteonian raiders, High Elves, and Ular-Pria slavers, and in the Countries overview as part of the larger Arteon, Eptelon, and Horteon political zone.
That position suggests Eptelonian society is shaped by refuge. Inland communities likely carry memories of lost coasts, broken settlements, slave raids, and the need to organize around defensible terrain.
High Elven and Arteonian Threats¶
High Elves treated Eptelon as part of the same expansionary world as Arteon and Horteon. Their citadels, colonies, and slaver systems turned Eptelon into another target of extraction.
Arteonian raiders add a different danger. Where High Elven pressure is imperial and structural, Arteonian violence is nearer and more recurrent: raids, feuds, coastal attacks, and captive-taking from an island already famous as the Island of Eternal War.
Ular-Pria Slaving¶
The Ular-Pria are Snakefolk heirs of the old archipelagic empire in Austropetolia. Their civilization survived the Great Collapse in fragmented island kingdoms and commercially resilient cities, and their older imperial world included slavery, cave wealth, sugarcane latifundia, silk, mercenaries, and secret magical societies.
For Eptelon, the Ular-Pria matter most as slavers and maritime predators. The proximity of the Snake Isles makes the sea itself dangerous: routes that carry trade can also carry raiders.
Between Larger Worlds¶
Eptelon's tragedy is that it lies between larger and more aggressive powers:
- Arteon exports raiding and half-Elven conflict.
- Austropetolia exports Snakefolk rivalry, slaving, and post-imperial ambition.
- Horteon and the Melodian world carry High Elven imperial pressure.
- Polaria and Gnomish traditions add northern religious and migratory context.
Because of that, Eptelon is a useful crossroad page for stories about colonial violence, maritime insecurity, displaced peoples, and the limits of empire.
Game-Relevant Connections¶
Eptelon connects most strongly to:
- High Elves, Atheus, and High Elven colonialism
- Arteon, the Island of Eternal War
- Ular-Pria, Austropetolia, and the Snake Isles
- Great Collapse, which shattered old maritime orders
- Horteon, Polaria, and the wider Melodian continents
