Jaam

196 words·1 min read

Jaam is one of the two principal Gnomish languages. It is spoken mainly by the Jemskoo Gnomes, with dialects among various Saamskoo tribes.

Speakers and Homeland

Jaam is associated with the Gnomes of Polaria and the cultural world called Kemi. Like the Waal-speaking communities of Horteon, its speakers descend from the Gnomes who trace their origin to the Peaceful Valley, or Jaaltuvsk.

The split between Jaam and Waal reflects the separation of Gnomish peoples into different homelands after exile, migration, and conflict. It is a linguistic memory of a people divided between Polaria and Horteon.

Religious Vocabulary

The shared Kuulvaal religion preserves one direct comparison. Wielkopan, creator of the Gnomes and the sole true god of the faith, is known as Wekuaa in Jaam and Wekuu in Waal. Gnomes also honor the Taalvut, angels who assist believers in ordinary life.

Limits of the Record

The existing wiki identifies Jaam's speakers, dialects, and several religious terms but does not define its grammar or writing system. Those gaps should remain open until source material gives more language data.
