Melodias
Melodias, also called Melodius or Ydes in different traditions, is one of the Four Great Gods and the most consistently destructive force in Omniluxian mythology. Her influence runs from the Great Primordial War to the Great Collapse.
Northern Great God¶
Melodias emerged from her Primordial Well in the North around 31,000 BLC. The timeline identifies her as the Dark Goddess whose ambition helped trigger the Great Primordial War.
Seeking to overthrow the Primordials, she enticed the Lord of the Winds to conquer the lands beneath the skies. The resulting war pitted the Sky Empire of the Lord of the Winds and Old Dragons against the Terran Coalition of Mother Earth, Stone Father, and their children.
Sealing¶
Melodias later tried to destroy humanity. Around 14,780 BLC, the Zerywani Twins sent the Party of the Great Heroes to seal all the Primordial Wells and protect the mortal races, especially humans, from her wrath. In 14,764 BLC, the party sealed Melodias into the final Primordial Well.
Her sealing did not end her influence. The Deep Gnomes were left to her fate after Wielkopan cursed them, hobgoblins later emerged through her influence on elves and goblins, and the drow were created when High Elves ate food cursed by her.
The Incident¶
During the Incident in 670 LC, Theolosius the Mad opened Melodias's Well in an attempt to save the Northern Empire. Her release destroyed Petramonis, split Omniluxia, darkened the climate, and unleashed magical devastation.
Melodias's return also reawakened or empowered several peoples: goblins, drow, and Yedidyhan, the First Vampire. The Great Collapse therefore restored her as an active force in the world and made her name inseparable from catastrophe.
Legacy¶
Melodias is remembered not merely as a goddess of destruction, but as a power who twists creation after others believe history has moved beyond her. Her curses, sealed Well, and release explain the origins of several feared peoples and the collapse of the old Zani world.
