Hobgoblins
The Hobgoblins are a warlike and unruly people of the Dragon's Pass in Morrigon, rumored to be a twisted mixture of elven and goblinic blood. They are remembered as children of Melodias and have only recently been united under the Zalthu Clan.
Origins¶
Around 6,000 BLC, hobgoblins were created through Melodias's influence and the intermixing of elven and goblin species. They invaded the Dragon's Pass and later exterminated remaining Silver Dwarves and Goblins from much of the region except the Inner Dragon's Pass.
Their origin makes them one of the clearest examples of Melodias's corruptive creativity: not merely destruction, but the making of new hostile peoples from broken lineages.
Society¶
Hobgoblin strength comes from many peoples: the skilled horsemen of the Urhuk clans, the Shoishoni mages of Shoptolan, and the hardy mountain warriors of the Jishani and Ahualtzi. Centuries of isolation divided them into complicated polities led by clans and blood-ties, with loyalties changing quickly.
Their warbands are dangerous, but they have historically lacked the organization and unity of more settled peoples.
Current Situation (1000 LC)¶
The Great Hobgoblin Horde was forged through the conquests of the Droishu warlord Girm Zalthu. By 998 LC, he controlled all the Hobgoblins of the Dragon's Pass. Unusually, he rewarded followers by merit rather than clan affiliation.
Upon his death in 999 LC, he left his realm to his eldest son and the city of Shoptolan to his younger son. The new great chief must unite the Five Great Tribes and the Two Great Cities before leading his people against hostile neighbors.
