Vampires

262 words·1 min read

Vampires are a divergent group that can arise from several races and derive energy from blood. Their origin is tied to Yedidyhan, the First Vampire, who was brought to life by Melodias during the Great Collapse.

Biology

Vampires are typically stronger and healthier than their uninfected counterparts, but their condition comes with serious weaknesses. Sunlight, weapons of wood, and garlic are among the most common dangers. They usually have red eyes and enlarged specialized canines used for drawing blood.

Because vampirism can affect different races, vampire society is not a single ethnicity. It is a condition, curse, lineage, and political tool.

Yedidyhan and the First Vampires

Yedidyhan emerged after Melodias's release in 670 LC and wandered the hills of Yehya feeding on those who crossed his path. Some Yedidyah tribes are known to be vampires and worship him as the Dark Lord of the Vampires.

This makes many vampire traditions religious as well as biological. Blood-drinking is not only hunger, but participation in a divine or cursed ancestry.

Hidden Dominion

The most infamous vampire dominion is hidden in the northern mountains of Arteon. Generations ago, three Arungdirong princes accepted the dark covenant of a Vampire Lord: power and eternal life in exchange for his curse.

Their bloodlines still rule the northern houses, preying upon the subjects they are sworn to protect. A vampire ruler may build an Undying Court, spreading authority through thralls, sealed crypts, and unnatural mist.
