Jarenam the Formidable

304 words·1 min read

Jarenam the Formidable Dragon was a Yarenamian slave, general, statesman, rebel, and conqueror. Born in 957 LC to a noble Bhaxian family in Zemmairthia, he became the founder of the Jarenam Empire and one of the most disruptive figures of the Middle Age.

Enslaved Education

Jarenam was educated as both a general and a statesman because Bhaxnmrechtem had grown dependent on enslaved Yarenamians in administrative and military positions. This contradiction created the conditions for revolt: the ruling elites trained the people who would eventually overthrow them.

By the late tenth century, Bhaxian and Esquelian nobles were corrupt and comfortable, while enslaved Yarenamians held much of the machinery that made the state function.

Revolt and Conquest

In 977 LC, Jarenam led the Yarenamian slaves in revolt at Zemmairthia, sacked the city, and began a sweeping conquest of western Luxterra. His armies pushed back the Razani and loyal Esquelians, accepted Etaredican support, and conquered much of Lower Baetep.

At its height, his empire rivaled the Zani successor states and permanently changed the political and cultural map of the west. The Jarenam Invasion displaced peoples, created new successor states, and shattered Razani control over several regions.

Defeat and Succession

Jarenam was decisively defeated by the Razani at the Battle of Gesma in 989 LC. Afterward, he spent much of his remaining reign suppressing rebellions rather than expanding.

He died of illness in 993 LC without naming a successor. The resulting crisis allowed conquered peoples, generals, nobles, and rival houses to break the empire apart. In 998 LC, the House of Totrazi seized control under Sakhir Totrazi, but the realm remained unstable.
