Invasions of Jarenam the Formidable
The Invasions of Jarenam the Formidable were among the most important events in western Luxterra since the fall of the Zakara Kephal. The rise of the Jarenam Empire under Qhagan Jarenam the Formidable shattered Razani power in the west and transformed the politics of Bhaxnmrechtem, Etaredica, Phanicia, and Baetep.
Jazari Influence in Bhaxnmrechtem and the Birth of Jarenam¶
Jarenam was born in 957 LC as a slave to a noble Bhaxian family in Zemmairthia. By that time, many administrative and military positions in Bhaxnmrechtem were held directly or indirectly by enslaved Yarenamians, while Bhaxian and Esquelian nobles had grown corrupt and comfortable.
Jarenam was educated as both a general and statesman. This training gave him the tools to turn a slave uprising into a campaign of conquest.
The Jazari Uprising¶
In 977 LC, Jarenam led the Yarenamian slaves in revolt at Zemmairthia. The city was slaughtered, and the uprising became the beginning of a larger conquest of Luxterra. Etaredicans joined his forces, while Razani loyalists and Esquelians were pushed back.
Conquest of Luxterra and the Kaffarian Kingdom¶
In 980 LC, the Kaffarians under Kaffar the Cruel detached from the main force and went east, conquering lands that became the Kaffarian Kingdom. This split shows how Jarenam's movement created secondary states and warlord realms even before his own empire stabilized.
By 985 LC, the Jareni had reached the Phanicians. Coastal communities mainly surrendered peacefully, while mountain kingdoms were crushed for resisting. Displaced Etaredicans migrated to the coasts of Bhaxnmrechtem, where the Yarenamians granted them lands.
The Phanician and Baetepian Campaigns¶
In 987 LC, Jarenam's army reached Baetep and conquered much of Lower Baetep. This brought the invasion into one of Luxterra's oldest contested regions and further weakened Razani influence over the south.
Return to Bhaxnmrechtem and Death of Jarenam¶
In 989 LC, Jarenam was decisively defeated by the Razani at the Battle of Gesma. He spent the rest of his reign putting down rebellions. In 993 LC he died of illness without naming a successor, triggering a succession crisis among generals and nobles. Several conquered territories broke away, and the empire he built entered the unstable age that eventually brought the House of Totrazi to power.
