Eagelian Kingdom

The Eagelian Kingdom, also called the Sumunian Kingdom, was the realm founded by Sumun the Great in 1 LC. It was the first unified Eagelian state and the direct predecessor of the Zani Empire.

Foundation¶

Sumun united the Eagelian peoples and adopted the Luxterran Calendar as the kingdom's official calendar. His reign lasted thirty-three years and became the chronological foundation of later history: the LC dating system begins with the founding of his kingdom.

The kingdom preserved strong martial traditions among its citizen-soldiers. Those traditions later allowed Zanis the Great to rebuild the army and use Eagelian military strength as the base of imperial expansion.

Succession Crisis¶

After Sumun died in 34 LC, the throne passed to Punnun the Sickly, who died the next year. O-Unnun the Young was assassinated before he could rule, and nobles placed Tzunnenun the Cruel on the throne. In 39 LC, a mob killed Tzunnenun after two years of tyranny.

The nobles then attempted oligarchic rule, but court intrigue and bloodshed led them to raise Uzurne Dbunnpun the Fat as a puppet king in 41 LC. This instability cost the kingdom territory and weakened royal legitimacy.

Fall and Transformation¶

Zanis returned to Eagelia in 41 LC after semi-mythic travels. He built up the military, won citizen support, and gathered allies at court. In 44 LC he overthrew Dbunnpun and proclaimed himself Emperor of the Eagelians.

The Eagelian Kingdom did not vanish so much as transform. It became the political, military, and religious seed of the Zani imperial order.

Legacy¶

Eagelian traditions survived in Zanic statecraft, calendar-keeping, religion, and the imperial claim to rule all Geallian peoples. Later Zanic legitimacy depended on both Sumun's foundation and Zanis's conquest.
