The Borderlands

The Borderlands are home to the Native Morrigonians west of the Nazani Empire. The peoples of the region have preserved traditional tribal lifestyles for centuries despite repeated pressure from Zani successors, orcish colonies, Silver Dwarven kingdoms, and the Soventeir Empire.

History¶

The Borderlands escaped Nazani control during the revolts that followed the Great Collapse and the weakening of western imperial authority. In 697 LC, the Nazani lost their hold over both the Marshlands and Borderlands as local tribes rose up and declared independence.

Despite the Great Borderlander Revolt, the Native Morrigonians never fully united. Instead, many groups returned to older tribal patterns, preserving autonomy but limiting their ability to face major powers as one people.

Situation at 1000 LC¶

All is not well in the Borderlands. The Northern Borderlanders face invading Orcish colonies said to be secretly funded by the Nazani to destabilize the region. The great betrayal of the Leslesi tribes has also drawn the vengeance of re-emergent Silver Dwarven kingdoms.

In the south, the Marshlanders enjoy an uneasy seven-year peace with the Nazani following their truce, but rumors circulate that the emperor of the Soventeir plans to expand into their lands.

Legacy¶

The Borderlanders and Marshlanders survive because they bend without disappearing. Their politics are fragmented, but their local identities, tribal memory, and resistance to imperial absorption make them one of Morrigon's most resilient peoples.
