Aralans
The Aralans are a militarized but fractured people who live in southern Rohenevia. Their society is competitive, locally autonomous, and shaped by constant military training.
Society¶
Aralan political life is built around princes who rule their own lands almost as kings. These rulers are sworn to protect the freemen and serfs under them, but cooperation between princes is difficult. Larger states survive only through complicated webs of fealty learned from nearby Rohenoans and Zanazi-Vetalians.
Some Aralans bow to the Merovingi kings, though usually only under pressure. Most prefer as much autonomy as possible, making the people difficult to unify and dangerous to dominate.
Military Culture¶
Aralan boys are trained for war from a young age. Hunts, drills, and constant competition prepare them for a life in which military readiness is treated as a basic social expectation rather than a specialized profession.
This culture produces capable warriors but also reinforces fragmentation. Prestige is won through strength, rivalry, and local loyalty, so Aralan society can resist outsiders fiercely while still struggling to act as one people.
Historical Position¶
The timeline notes the arrival of the first Aralan mercenaries in Rohenoa in 578 LC. This places them in the late Zanic world, before the Great Northern War and the Great Collapse. Their later role in southern Rohenevia should be read through that mercenary and frontier context: skilled soldiers moving through a region shaped by Rohenoan, Rohevian, Vetalian, and Zani influence.
