The Sun Religion

The Sun Religion is the faith of the Sunset Elves, a solar cult centered on the worship of the wrathful sun god Aheol. It combines fear of the sun's destructive force with gratitude for its warmth, harvests, and protection.

Aheol the Sun God¶

Aheol is mighty and wrathful. His rays can burn animals, plants, and the skin of men, making sunlight both a weapon and a test of devotion. Through the Amahario Ritual, a worshipper may sacrifice blood to Aheol in exchange for his favor.

Yet the sun is not only cruel. Its glow can also be warm and inviting, blessing the faithful with bountiful harvests and healthy livestock. The faith therefore treats Aheol as both destroyer and provider.

The Sunset Elves¶

Aheol is the patron of all Sunset Elves, who say he saved them from the "heathen" worship of Cafea, or Mother Nature. His rituals and teachings permeate their society, and they credit his favor for victories over their enemies.

The sun also underpins their economy. Prized lumber, woad, hemp, and furs are produced under Aheol's light and coveted by other nations.

Legacy¶

The Sun Religion gives Sunset Elven society a harsh but productive sacred order. Blood, heat, agriculture, and victory all flow through Aheol, making the faith both a cult of sacrifice and a theology of survival.
