Onageter
Onageter was king of the Great Nurhagorkan during the Wonder Age. His death during the Igeoris challenge became one of the central foundation stories of orcish religious history.
King of the Great Nurhagorkan¶
By 14,771 BLC, the Great Nurhagorkan was powerful enough that the Party of the Great Heroes sought an orcish champion from among its people. The kingdom's expansion also threatened the lands where future human societies were expected to grow, giving the Great Heroes both a practical and divine reason to intervene.
Onageter ruled within an older orcish tradition where the Igeoris functioned as a test of strength. The challenge was tied to Mount Arteth: the strongest claimant was the one who could climb highest and return.
The Igeoris and Death¶
The human hero Guer challenged Onageter to an Igeoris. With a charm given by the Zerywani Twins, Guer reached the summit and returned with an obsidian rock and Onageter's crown. Onageter was incinerated while attempting the climb.
The defeat broke more than a king. Guer's victory allowed him to claim divine authority among the orcs and begin teaching the practices later associated with Gotzon, the Chosen. Onageter therefore stands at the hinge between the old expansionist Great Nurhagorkan and the more inward-looking religious order that followed.
Legacy¶
In orcish memory, Onageter is the defeated ruler whose fall made the Gotzon tradition possible. His crown became a sign that the Great Heroes had redirected orcish strength away from outward conquest and toward the cultivation of the inner flame through reflection, isolation, and ritual opium.
