Kinones

300 words·1 min read

The Kinones, or Kino, are distant cousins of Humanity who dwell in the Peaceful Valley. They are among the most misunderstood races of Omniluxia, largely because they keep to themselves and prefer agriculture, trade, and communal order over conquest.

Origins

The Kinones evolved from proto-humans around 15,500 BLC, beginning the Kinones First Age. Around 14,500 BLC they moved into the Peaceful Valley, beginning the Second Age. Later Kinones ages are recorded around 10,000 BLC, 2,000 BLC, and after the Great Collapse.

Their history is therefore older than most human kingdoms and deeply tied to the Zerywani, proto-human origins, and the divine history of the Peaceful Valley.

Biology

Kinones are often confused with Halflings because of their short stature and strong build. They are distinguished by long faces, peaceful temperament, and a tendency to avoid conflict unless no other option remains.

Society

Kinones clans are spread across the valleys and forests of the Peaceful Valley. Each clan has its own Kino, a concept of communal way, spirit, and interest, yet all submit to the will of Kon.

The great city of the White Faced Clan dominates the Central Valley. Their rivals, the expansionist Mlo'n Clan, rule the western slopes. Southern city-states are known for trade, agriculture, and hospitality, while the north and east are wary of foreigners because of raids by Northlanders and Deep Gnomes.

Political Future

Some Kinones now call for a Great League to unite all Kinones under one Kino and defend their way of life. The question facing the race is whether their traditional local balance can survive in an age of raids, empires, and religious expansion.
