Aldic

266 words·1 min read

Aldic is the magical style concerned with spirits, minds, souls, perception, and the living form. It is sometimes described as a lesser counterpart to divine magic because it works with spiritual forces without necessarily drawing directly on a god.

Clerics

Aldic Clerics restore and attack life through spiritual means. Healing Light cures illness, Restoration helps an army recover manpower, and stronger healing can address severe disease or add vitality. The same tradition can be inverted through Pestilence, which afflicts an enemy with disease.

Illusionists

Illusionists alter what minds and bodies accept as real. Altered Inspiration lifts military morale and Inspired Thoughts strengthens a ruler’s legitimacy. More hostile workings include Mind Break, which causes madness or psychosis, and Warped Flesh, which destroys soldiers or kills a target through bodily transformation.

Charm and Soul Magic

The Charm school turns Aldic influence toward personality and loyalty. Silver Tongue heightens a caster’s charisma, while Charm leaves another person weak-willed and temporarily better disposed toward the caster.

Soul Magic acts directly on the anima. Mended Anima strengthens health, while Astral Search can develop martial, oratorical, religious, or intellectual ability. The Starogii Style taught at the Jelenia University of Magecraft is another Aldic tradition centered on the souls of living beings.

Risks

Because Aldic magic can heal, persuade, derange, or transform, the division between support and coercion depends heavily on how a technique is used. Its practitioners can restore a body or undermine the autonomy of a mind with related spiritual principles.
