Polaric

The Polaric faith is the harsh pantheon of the Polarians and Northlanders who settled the arctic lands of Polaria. It reflects the brutal realities of survival in the far north and the post-Collapse history of peoples driven toward the ice.

Mayen the Bear God¶

Chief among the Polaric gods is Mayen, the mighty Bear God. Mayen is bloodthirsty, but his cruelty reflects the logic of Polaria: survival requires strength, endurance, and willingness to surrender what is valued.

Mayen demands sacrifice not of the weak, the sick, or the dying, but of the strong and beloved. To the faithful, such offerings prove true devotion precisely because they cost the community something it cannot easily replace.

The Faithful¶

The Polaric faith belongs to the descendants of the fallen Northern Empire, now divided into squabbling clans such as the Bear Hunters. These peoples displaced native Gnomes from the fertile southern plains of Polaria.

Their religion therefore carries both exile and conquest. It is the faith of survivors of imperial collapse who remade themselves as northern clans, and of settlers who learned to read divine truth through cold, hunger, and violence.

Legacy¶

Polaric belief keeps the memory of the Northern Empire alive in altered form. Where the old empire is remembered for capitals, archmages, and Petramonis, the Polaric faithful remember the hard gods of the land that received its survivors.
