Kingdom of Herue
The Kingdom of Herue is a bastion of Helluvianism and humanity among the warring Norrfalian tribes, built upon the ruins of the Drow kingdom of Iolsim.
Foundation¶
In 823 LC, the Heruevi tribes under King Norraksgaelg conquered Minerik, capital of Iolsim, the greatest Drow kingdom of the north. They founded the Kingdom of Herue and renamed the capital Dawaon, meaning Great Star.
King Norraksgaelg later converted to Helluvianism in 831 LC after working with Saint Balthazar. This tied Herue to the wider Balthazarian struggle against the Drow and made the kingdom one of the great human strongholds in Norrfalia.
History¶
For generations, the Walantidottir dynasty ruled by primogeniture. The kingdom defended humanity against Drow revenge after the Svardenni, the reconquest that drove the Drow back to their caves.
Herue reached its greatest extent around 894 LC, but its strength was fragile. In 987 LC, the old king broke tradition and named his scholarly youngest son as heir, setting the stage for civil conflict.
Situation at 1000 LC - The Iron Crown¶
The disputed succession shattered the realm. Rebel brothers seized Dawaon in 989 LC and then turned on each other. Surrounding tribes raided the weakened kingdom, Drow incursions increased, and the Order of Balthazar lost many knights trying to intervene.
Four claimants now vie for the Iron Crown: the two rebel Walantidottir brothers, the outsider war-hero of the Crimson Army, and the disgraced king. With the order in disarray and the Drow massing for a larger invasion, the future of Norrfalia hangs on Herue's survival.
