City Instructions
Visiting a city¶
A character can visit a city when they are physically located there. Select the character, ruler, or army commander and press the Visit City button in the character window. The same menu can be opened from a province or unit window when the relevant character is present. The character generally needs to be Loyal, must be alive, and must meet the access rules for the city. Access rules? If there isn't anything worth visiting in the city, then the option never materializes.
What you can do¶
The city menu lists only services that exist in that city and are available to the visitor. A Market lets you buy items and equipment. An Adventurer's Guild provides adventurer-related services. A Brewery offers paid social and recovery activities. An Entertainment District offers entertainment and games. A Magic Academy opens formal magic study, while a Mage Tower offers access to powerful high-tier spell purchases. Hostile cities may replace normal services with a Black Market and options to buy or steal food; these actions can be risky and stealing requires a valid opportunity.
Buildings and access¶
The building must exist in the city for its service to appear. Markets require a Commerce building; Adventurer's Guilds, Breweries, Circuses, Magic Academies, and Mage Towers each require their matching city building. Mage Towers also require a Magic Academy and the appropriate invention. A building's normal province effects still apply even when you are not visiting it; visiting simply opens its character interaction.
Political and personal character interactions such as Scheme: Mana, Seduce, Imperial Blinding, Go Raiding, and Consume Man'a are separate from city visits. They are opened directly from the character interaction menu and are covered in Character Interactions.
Leaving and trying again¶
Choosing Back returns to the city menu or the previous character menu. Move the character to another city to use that city's services. If an option is missing, check the visitor's location, loyalty, wealth, the city's ownership or occupation, and whether the required building is present.
