Item Instructions
What items are¶
Items are equipment designs that give a character a personal bonus and can also outfit the realm's armies. A character can carry individual gear, while the country's current loadout supplies army-wide bonuses. Open the Items button on the character window to inspect, equip, unequip, discard, or replace gear.
Personal and army equipment¶
Personal items affect the character who carries or equips them. Army items are assigned to the country's loadout and improve eligible cohorts across the realm. Weapon and ranged-weapon designs generally improve offense; armor and shields generally improve defense. The exact unit type and modifiers are shown in each item's tooltip.
Loadout slots¶
The national loadout has six slots: Weapon, Ranged Weapon, Armor, Shield, Emblem, and Trinket. Buying or commissioning another item for a filled slot replaces the previous design and removes its old army bonus. The character window shows the currently equipped designs.
Buying items¶
Use a city's Market from the city visit menu. The market's stock is generated from the city and its surroundings, so larger, wealthier, more developed cities and cities with stronger market infrastructure are more likely to offer better goods. A visiting character pays with personal wealth; a ruler shopping directly uses the national treasury. The price and requirements are shown before purchase.
Travel and access¶
Open the city button on a ruler, eligible character, or army commander standing in a city. Friendly cities can offer their market when access rules allow it. Hostile or occupied cities may instead expose a black market or food options, but ordinary city services are unavailable. Characters with insufficient loyalty cannot visit.
Other character menu actions do not require a market or city service. For political, dynastic, magical, and ruler-only actions, see Character Interactions.
Succession and special items¶
Army loadout belongs to the current ruler's realm, while carried personal items belong to their character. Replacing a loadout item is deliberate: compare the new tooltip with the old design first. Named artifacts and relics are separate special items and may have their own equip rules.
